Rhodes – Air access, ferries, and getting around the island
Rhodes is one of the largest islands in the Dodecanese and is connected to the rest of Greece by both air and sea. "Diagoras" International Airport serves flights from Athens and other Greek cities, as well as international flights, with availability varying by season. The port of Rhodes connects to Piraeus and other Dodecanese islands—such as Kos, Symi, Karpathos, Kalymnos, and Kastellorizo—as well as select destinations in the Cyclades and Crete, depending on the specific route and time of year. For travel from the airport to the city and surrounding areas, buses and taxis are available. Furthermore, the island’s bus network serves Rhodes town, coastal settlements, and popular destinations like Lindos; however, schedules should be checked prior to your trip. Local buses are suitable for many routine trips, while renting a car or motorcycle offers greater flexibility for exploring beaches, villages, and sights located further away from the main settlements. In Rhodes Town, many distances can be covered on foot—especially within the Old Town, Mandraki, and the city center.
